(This is my fist blog post after a really long time. I need to start blogging more
)
I was looking for a certain screen saver that was on my Ubuntu machine for Mac. Instead I stumbled upon a whole collection of screen savers, with the screen saver I wanted, in a Mac OS X *.saver format. It was XScreenSaver. I only found that it was available for Mac (in a binary format, too) when I saw the XScreenSaver site. The collection has all +100 screen savers that you can find on almost all Unix systems. If you have a Unix system without XScreenSaver, you can compile it from source (A binary for your distrobution might be available in your software package repository).
In this collection, there are many interesting screen savers that are available for use. There is ATunnel, which is just a textured tunnel in GL. There is also Fireworkz, which it, put simply, exploding fireworks. There is also my personal favorite, BSOD. This screen saver is really a collection of infamous error screens. My second favorite screen saver is Fiberlamp, which is just simply a rotating fiber lamp.
Simply put, if you are looking for only one screen saver for you Mac, this collection is worth installing. And I mean all +100 *.saver files in your ~/Library/ScreenSavers/ folder.
